Barge Cruising has grown to be a very popular product and experience in the luxury travel market. Cruising leisurely on Europe's inland waterways is a relaxing alternative to self drive, group tours, and large cruise lines. Since barges, and the waterways on which they sail are small, the experience is intimate - more like a floating country inn than a cruise ship. The scenery keeps changing, and guests can go ashore on their own during the day or in the evening. You can visit famous sites or go off the beaten path to private chateaux and small historic villages, or larger bustling towns. Cruises along the canals offer an excellent biking and/or walking experience. Evening entertainment is impromptu, rather than scheduled - a bit like a house party atmosphere. Your chef will delight the palate of the most discriminating guest. Wine accompanies each lunch and dinner. Some barges serve Grand Cru/Premier Cru wines.
Most hotel barges carry bicycles for all passengers, have their own motor coach for shore excursions, and are fully crewed with captain, chef, guide, and staff.
